Most people arrive at Krishna's texts through a festival rather than a practice, and the choice follows the occasion. आरती कुंजबिहारी की is the aarti sung at Janmashtami and at temple darshan. The Hare Krishna mahamantra is for japa — repeated on a mala rather than read once. If you are looking for what is sung standing in front of the idol with a diva, it is the aarti.
