Japa counter — for when your mala isn't with you
संकल्प · Your mala vows
कोणताही संकल्प नाही · No vows yet. Add one below and the counter above will keep its tally.
A संकल्प is a vow to complete a set number of malas, kept up over days or weeks. The count carries over: finish four malas today and tomorrow starts at four, not at zero. Set your own number of malas and your own count per mala. Add as many as you like; each is counted separately.

Your counts live on this device only — nothing is sent anywhere and there is no sign-in. That also means clearing your browser data would clear them. Copy the code below and send it to yourself on WhatsApp to keep a backup, or paste one in to restore on a new phone.
On an iPhone, adding this page to your Home Screen also makes the counts far less likely to be cleared by Safari.
जपाविषयी · About japa
Japa is the repetition of a mantra, counted. Traditionally the count is kept on a mala of 108 beads — rudraksha for Shiva mantras, tulsi for Vishnu — with a larger meru bead marking the start, which is never crossed: on reaching it you turn the mala and go back the other way.
This page is for the times the mala isn't to hand: on a train, at a desk, travelling. It counts, it holds the number on your own device, and it does nothing else. Whatever you are chanting stays between you and it — nothing is sent anywhere.
सामान्य संख्या · The usual counts
- ११ — a short round
- २१ — a fuller round
- १०८ — one full mala
- १०८० — ten malas
108 is the traditional number, given many explanations: the 12 zodiac signs times the 9 planets, or the 27 nakshatras across 4 quarters. Whichever you hold to, the count matters less than the steadiness.
