ॐ भूर्भुवः स्वःतत्सवितुर्वरेण्यंभर्गो देवस्य धीमहिधियो यो नः प्रचोदयात्॥
Om bhur bhuvah svahTat savitur varenyamBhargo devasya dhimahiDhiyo yo nah prachodayat ||
Meaning: Om, we meditate on the glorious splendor Of the divine light that illuminates the three worlds. May that light illuminate our intellect And guide us on the righteous path.
भावार्थ
ॐ भूर्भुवः स्वः — तीनों लोकों (पृथ्वी, अंतरिक्ष, स्वर्ग) का आवाहन। उस सवितृ (सूर्य-रूप प्रेरक) के वरण करने योग्य तेज का हम ध्यान करते हैं, जो हमारी बुद्धि को प्रेरित करे। ध्यान देने योग्य बात यह है कि यह मंत्र धन, आयु या सुख नहीं माँगता — केवल बुद्धि की प्रेरणा माँगता है। ऋग्वेद (३.६२.१०) की यह ऋचा ऋषि विश्वामित्र को प्राप्त हुई; इसे वेदमाता कहा जाता है क्योंकि सम्यक् बुद्धि से ही शेष सब सधता है।
