The Lakshmi texts are almost entirely a Diwali and Friday practice. कनकधारा स्तोत्र has a story attached that explains its tone — Shankaracharya composed it standing at the door of a house too poor to give him anything but one dried amla, which is why its argument is that destitution is itself the qualification for asking. महालक्ष्म्यष्टक is short enough to learn in one sitting and is what most families actually recite at the puja.
