Every puja in a Maharashtrian or North Indian home begins here. Ganpati is invoked first — before the Devi, before the family deity, before anything else — because he is the one who removes what stands in the way. That order is not ceremony; it is why सुखकर्ता दुखहर्ता is the first aarti in almost every household's sangraha and the one children learn before they can read.
